Classy Christmas Decor

Classy Christmas Decor

It may be time to deck the halls but don’t pull out the tinsel and baubles just yet!  Christmas doesn’t have to be tacky, this year we’re all about classy and understated. We’ve put together our top tips for decking the halls for a classy Christmas.

Choose Your Palette Wisely

We recommend steering clear of red and green décor this year. Our suggestion? Make white your base colour. This fresh, clean colour works well with anything and instantly adds more elegance to the space. Try pairing it with gold for a touch of glamour. A white tablecloth with a gold runner will take your dining room display to the next level. Other colours that might be more your style include silver and bronze. Stick to a pair of base colours with minimal accents to avoid too much going on, as well as any colour clashes.

Natural Beauty

Finish off the pairing of your choice with accents of evergreen to symbolise the new life this holiday brings. Use natural elements such as Magnolia leaves, pinecones and pine needles as a classy way to add a little something extra to your space. A bonus is that they give off a lovely aroma, leaving your home smelling as good as it looks all holiday long. An inventive way to add some life to your living room is by wrapping some fresh greens in fairy lights and displaying them above the mantle. A nicer alternative to tinsel if we do say so ourselves.

Show Spirit

We hate to risk sounding like the Grinch this Christmas but if you’re looking for elegance this season, we’re sorry Santa you’ve got to go. Unfortunately, the same can be said for other decorative pieces that overstate your Christmas cheer. Don’t get us wrong, the occasional Reindeer is welcome, but try not to make this the theme of your styling this season. Incorporate festive elements such as a grapevine woven wreath, or a trio of tall candlesticks. Another clever way to show your Christmas spirit is to use your holiday cards as decorations. Simply string a few of them along the staircase or over the mantelpiece.

Setting The Table

There are many ways to make a magical Christmas table, it really depends on your personal taste. So, what are our go to tips? We love using glass candlestick holders and making sure we have a glitzy centrepiece on an otherwise understated table. As we mentioned before some great ideas for centrepieces are a wreath, some fresh greens or even a trio of candles. For an even fancier fit don’t skip out on the napkin rings! For a homemade touch wrap the napkins along with a sprig of holly in your favourite ribbons.

The Tree

There is no way to get a Christmas tree wrong. These Christmas staples are your opportunity to celebrate your Christmas spirit as you please. But if you are looking for a little direction you can’t go wrong with using geometric gold ornaments, as well as modern minimalist glass ones. Keep your tree free of tinsel. Instead opt for small white twinkle lights. But remember less is more when it comes to keeping it classy.
