How To Style Pantone’s 2019 Colour Of The Year – Living Coral

How To Style Pantone’s 2019 Colour Of The Year – Living Coral

Described by Pantone themselves as a symbol for “our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits”, Living Coral certainly sets the tone for a much anticipated 2019, filled with warmth and good vibes. Termed as “sociable and spirited”, it’s the very colour we need to encourage more meaningful personal and social experiences in this ironically disconnected world of social media and being ‘online’.

So how do we bring Living Coral into our homes? Is there such a thing as going too far? And which shade is right for which room? We can confidently help you with the first question. The second and third are entirely up to you and your personal preference. But if it were us, the more the merrier!

What’s your palette?

Before you embark on your interior design journey, there are a few things to sort out first. One of the first things you want to understand is what shades complement our hero colour, Living Coral. This will also help you decide the overall vibe of your interiors.

Make it the focal point
If you really want Living Coral to stand out, cool tones such as Storm Gray (15-4003), Forest Biome (19-5230) and Twill (16-1108) are the perfect shades to set the stage for Living Coral to take the spotlight and really shine.

Move over nautical, hello seaside vibes!
Imagine the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Maldives and the vibrant hues of the Great Barrier Reef – that’s the goal here. Blue Depths (19-3940), Viridian Green (17-5126), Limpet Shell (13-4810) and Sea Pink (15-1912) will help you achieve just that.

Pretty in Pink
If you’re feeling inspired and really want to embrace the trend, pair Living Coral with shades from the same family. More pinks, browns and peaches! Our personal favourites are Rose Dawn (16-1522), Coral Sands (14-1224), Sun Kissed Coral (17-1736) and Candlelight Peach (15-1621).

Get styling!

Now that we’ve sorted out our colour palette, it’s time to get styling! If you want to ease your way in, look at what you already have in your home, assess the tones and shades that are already present and do a stocktake of items you’re happy to part with and replace (with our new BFF, Living Coral).

Accessories are a great way to incorporate Living Coral into your current décor. We love adding statement cushions to do just that. Swap out your lived-in couch friends with new, bright cushions. While you’re at it, play with different shapes and sizes to really make that statement without having to go for scale. Another great way to sift in the colour is with pot plants, ceramics and small ornaments you can style in a cluster on top of your coffee table, on your shelves or even on your bedside table. Bring it into your bathroom with coral bath towels or even with your toothbrush holder and soap dispenser.

Art Attack! Does anyone remember that show? Regardless, attack your bare walls with artworks that embrace our 2019 Pantone colour of the year. Whether one large painting or two paired prints, this will command the vibe of your room and demand the eye upward, great for making your room feel taller.

Feeling bold? We are all for a velvet lounge or velvet dining chairs to really turn up the luxe! It’s a great way to incorporate Living Coral whilst adding an element of glitz and glamour to your living or dining space. Another option is warming up your space with an oversized coral rug. Play with patterns depending on the theme of your room. You can’t go wrong with a classic Herringbone rug or even a faded Baden rug.

If you want to go the nine yards, sand down those walls and get painting! Inspired by the colourful coastal towns of Cinque Terre and the sun-kissed buildings of Morocco, make your home feel like a holiday getaway. It can be summer, year-round!
