Contemporary Christmas Styling for the Home

Contemporary Christmas Styling for the Home

December is right around the corner and you know what that means – tis the season to be jolly! But tis not the season to be sticking to obligatory Santa figurines and gold tinsel to celebrate the silly season!

Most of you would know, that we here at Vault Interiors Property Styling like to do things outside of the norm. When everyone else is adorning their homes in the typical green and red colour scheme, we’re over here trying to think of unique, contemporary ways to approach the decorative process of the holiday season.

So if you’re over the usual Christmas decoration and wanting to try a new approach this year – you’re in luck! We’ve compiled an expert list of how you can contemporise your holiday styling without looking like Saint Nick exploded in your living room… read on!

1. GREEN AND RED? YAWNNN!

We’re living in Australia – which means Christmas is full of sun, tans and drinks by the pool. So the idea of Santa riding on his reindeers through snow probably doesn’t apply for us Aussies. Instead, we imagine Santa is more likely to ride in on a surfboard to deliver his pressies!

To match this unique Australian Christmas, you need an appropriate colour combo. Yellow and teal or green and blue are wonderful schemes for a fresh and summery Christmas theme. Neutrals like soft pink, white and beige give a lovely feminine aesthetic. Decorate your Christmas tree with ornaments in your chosen colours and then style the rest of your home from there.

2. LESS TO ACHIEVE MUCH MORE

Christmas often times can feel cluttered and, frankly, OTT. So this year, why not take a more minimalist approach to achieve a more refined, sleek look. In particular, a Scandinavian style Christmas tree is an easy incorporation into your home, exuding sophistication whilst being a lot easier to pack up than the conventional tree!

Stick to a combination of white and light timber and avoid decorations that are too glittery or vivacious. Think paired back and low key.

Use your accent colours in small doses for maximum impact. Don’t clutter up the room, focus on certain points of interest instead of every surface.

3. ADD METALLICS FOR GLAMOUR

Whatever your styling theme, incorporating metallics will instantly add drama and a visually interesting focal point. Metallics are very on trend and you can find lovely decorations in a range of finishes such as rose gold, gold, chrome and brass in most of the big brand furniture stores – try Freedom Furniture and Domayne.

4. STAY CLASSY SAN DIEGO SYDNEY

If you’re going for a sophisticated look, steer clear of the Christmas warehouse clearance stores and stick to the décor and furniture stores. Bed, Bath & Table have a wide range of decorations in various styles this year. H&M Home and West Elm also have some great sophisticated ornaments.

Choose decorations that will easily slot into your existing décor without looking overwhelming. Avoid the large flashing Santas or any kind of mechanical, toy like figurines.
