5 styling tips under $50

5 styling tips under $50

If you are looking to update your home but don’t want to spend a bomb here are our top 5 styling tips that won’t break the bank.

1.ADD ARTWORK

Artwork can make a huge impact and is easy on the wallet. Posters, either cult, vintage, movie or music can look fabulous framed and hung with the right overall decor style. For under $50 you can also find some great prints on websites like etsy.com.

Frame your favourite photos and create a gallery wall for your hallway or above a console table. Hang frames in a cluster for maximum impact and use various frame sizes to make it visually interesting. A mix of black and white frames can also look very graphic paired with black and white images.

2. UPDATE LIGHTING

Adding a floor or table lamp to your room will change the feeling of the space through ambient light. Metallics are on trend and add instant glamour – try Kmart or Target for some great bargains on lamps. Update the lamp shade on dated pendant lights. Bunnings, Beacon Lighting and Target sell awesome drum shades in various patterns and colours for under $50.

3. INCLUDE PLANTS

Plant life can instantly brighten up a room, we love small pots placed on dining or coffee tables. Succulents are a great low maintenance option. A tall palm or fern will work well on the floor next to an entertainment unit to soften a space, or anywhere where there is dead space. A bright oversized bunch of flowers can also make any room feel more welcoming. Try native varieties which last a while and can be dried to create a prominent display.

4. ROTATE CUSHIONS AND THROWS

Adding scatter cushions and a throw to your sofa or bed will change the look in an instant. We love to use accent colours to reflect the season. Opt for bright, citrusy, poppy tones in Summer and warmer, deeper tones in Winter. If you already have neutral scatter cushions add an accent colour to change the aesthetic. Soft pinks or blues are very on-trend at the moment or try patterned, monochromic feature cushions for a clean and simple look.

5. INCORPORATE A RUG

Rugs anchor a space and create defined zones. Add a rug under the desk in a study, at the foot of a bed or under a dining table to add texture to the room. For good value rugs under $50 try Victoria’s Basement, Target, Ikea or Kmart.
